The Cute and/or Delicious Giveaway

It’s that time of year again! Not back-to-school time or autumn-is-upon-us time… it’s Vegan MoFo time! After switching to November last year, MoFo is returning to October for its fifth season (!). I’m not slacking off this year; I’m planning a bunch of themed posts and topics. And I want y’all to read them! To shamelessly win your loyalty, I’m hosting another giveaway! Last October I offered up autumnal-themed goods, but this year’s gifts are more varied. However, they all fall into one of two (if not both!) categories: cute and/or delicious. (No affiliation with the similarly titled (and delightful-to-read!) Cute and Delicious blog.) Up for grabs is the following collection o’ swag:

Photograph of a set of recipe cards, an organic, fair-trade orange dark chocolate bar, a small pin with an elephant holding an umbrella that says "Herbivore," three Larabars, and four Cocomels.

One lucky winner will receive:

  • A set of cute, anthropomorphic-veggie-featurin’ recipe cards made by the wonderfully talented Michelle of My Zoetrope, who creates eye-poppingly bright and cheerful artwork. These are so darn cute that it hurts me to give them away.
  • All four delicious flavors of J.J.’s Cocomels. Words cannot describe how ecstatic I was when I discovered that my beloved co-op carries Cocomels. They’re strategically placed right by the register, ensuring that I nearly always fall into the spontaneous-purchase trap and impulsively buy one (or more…) of these sweet, sticky, melt-in-your-mouth-amazing morsels of chewy deliciousness when I do my weekly shopping. My favorite flavor is Fleur de Sel, but you’ll also get to taste Original, Vanilla, and Java.
  • A delicious and cutely packaged organic, fair-trade dark chocolate bar. I can’t speak to this specific flavor, but rarely does the combination of dark chocolate and orange disappoint.
  • Three undeniably delicious Larabars. As a nod to last year’s giveaway, these are vaguely autumn-themed – I’m including Ginger Snap, Apple Pie, and Chocolate Coconut Chew. Okay, maybe the last one is more of a salute to the end of summer than the beginning of autumn.
  • One cute little vegan-themed pin from Herbivore. This one features a sweet little elephant using her trunk to hold up an umbrella.

Sweet selection, right? Well, I’m gonna make you do a little thinking if you want a chance to win. As I said before, I want to keep you reading my little old blog, so I’d like to know what makes you return to the blogs you love best. Is it witty writing? Photographs that make you drool on your keyboard? Recipes that inspire you to run to the kitchen immediately? Tips for vegan living? Product reviews? An indefinable je ne sais quoi?

So, to be considered for the giveaway, leave a comment letting me know what keeps you invested in the blogs you love best. For extra entries, feel free to do one or both of the following (and leave another comment letting me know you did!):

  • Tweet about the giveaway
  • Mention it on your blog
Anyone can enter; just be sure to leave an e-mail address so I can contact you. I’ll choose a winner on Wednesday, 6th October, around 7:00 PM CST. Good luck, dear readers!

  1. Awesome giveaway! MyZoeTrope’s stuff is adorable. I’ve never tried Cocomels, but I’m intrigued. I’m so excited about Vegan Mofo. Last year was the first time I ever took part, and I had such a wonderful time. I love the feeling of camaraderie and excitement that surrounds it, especially in the first couple of weeks.

The thing that keeps me returning to the blogs I check most is definitely fun and engaging writing. I enjoy good recipes and pretty pictures as much as the next person, but the thing that keeps me coming back is a sense of who that author is and a playfulness about their posts.

  2. I adore the way you write and your photographs are wonderful too…but really, the way you write is why I keep returning. That’s why I return to all of my favorite blogs. I know I rarely comment on anything, but I make it a point to read my favorite blogs regularly. What a sweet giveaway!

  3. Wowza what a stash! So excited that it’s VMofo again :) I’m not a US reader so I’m not sure if I’m eligible to win but it’s worth a try especially as I can’t get any of those goodies over here. I’m a big blog reader and I like a whole variety but probably what makes my favourites is the friendly, chatty style, yummy (not toooo elaborate) recipes and maybe useful info snippets or tips on vegan food and living.

  4. I like delicious (but east, ’cause I’m lazy) recipes, and great photos, but mostly I like blogs that have personality. I like hearing about people’s lives (like stories and pics of their dogs or trip to the Farmer’s Market), told in a fun and friendly style. I’m bothered by blogs that are too formal, or too fancy. I like to feel like I’m checking in with a good friend, even if I’ve only known the person online. :)

  5. what a sweet giveaway! I usually get invested in blogs where I like the sort of food they prepare – but then beyond that it’s nice if they also have a nice sense of personality behind the writing, and a pretty design. Now I feel so picky!

  6. Loving to eat is what keeps me reading my favorite blogs–I like to get inspiration from other people’s recipes and ingredient combinations, to encourage me to be more adventurous in my own cooking.

  7. The main thing that keeps me coming back to certain blogs is if we have similar taste in food – if I see a few recipes that sound like something I would like, usually I add the blog to my Google Reader.

  8. I normally return to blogs that are well written (some spelling and grammar mistakes can mean that I’ll never return), witty, not too self-important, and, if possible, lots of pictures!

  9. Coming over from the PPK. Awesome blog! What I like best in blogs are frequent posts (I struggle with this on my own blog haha), really creative recipes that can’t be found anywhere else, and loads of personality in the writing. You seem to have all that here, so I’ll be back many times!

  10. For as little as I put them up on my own blog, I LOVE pictures. The blogs that show me the step-by-step process of cooking with photos not only keeps me fascinated while I’m sneaking peeks at work, but it also gives me something to compare with as I’m cooking (“so that’s what the dough should look like!”).

Variety is also something I greatly appreciate – I like blogs that cover lots of different types of foods.

And lastly, those that post often.

    Enjoying your blog, great space!

  12. When it comes to food blogs I guess I’m drawn first to visuals…awesome photos of a product or a recipe item and especially if it’s a recipe, I love step=by=step photos. (Just one for each though…sometimes people go a little overboard I think when they post several views of each step when it’s not really necessary.) Some bloggers also offer their own photo tutorials too…those are always great! Superdelicious recipes, honest product reviews, helpful tips and advice and supercool giveaways are always exciting to find. And of course stories, humor, “questions of the day”, personal quirks and comments are fun to read.
    Hope that helps…cheers!

  13. I just discovered your blog and I’ll definitely be following it from now on! :)
I’m looking at a list of my favourite blogs right now and my reasons for following them are so diverse: delicious/cheap/healthy recipes, witty writing, cute animal pictures, inspiring photographs, posts on gardening, travelling, occasional titbits that are not food-related… some blogs provide recommendations for vegan products in my area, but I also love reading about vegan eats from other parts of the world. I also love when a blog is updated regularly (something I’m horrible at myself). My absolute favourite blogs have pretty pictures, regular updates (not always just about food), and awesome friendly authors!
Your giveaway looks awesome, by the way! I love the cute elephant pin (and everything else). Happy MoFo :)

  14. Cute photos & recipes keep me invested but they need to be combined with the personality of the blogger who is posting them, its human nature to be nosey so hearing little tidbits about someones life is lovely!

  19. I follow a lot of different blogs for various reasons. What keeps me interested is a mixture of recipes with pictures, personal stories and product reviews. Also if I know the blogger personally or communicate with her/him on Twitter or Facebook I am more likely to keep up with their blog.

  20. My favorite blogs feature a wide variety of foods and are not part of the fat-free/low-fat vegan phenomenon. I am simply not a fan. I think it’s great for some folks and I’m happy they’re happy, but I have a hard time following along with their posts because I am absolutely unconcerned with my weight and the way other people perceive me. I exercise daily and live a healthy vegan life and feel that coconut oil, nuts, salt, chocolate and other “no-no’s” are an exciting, welcomed part of my diet. As a vegan personal chef, I believe fat & salt accent flavor and lusciousness, so those are the kinds of blogs I like – from haute cusine to country cookin’, bring on the flavor!
